Establishment of NCC
You have learned the NCC Full Form, now you know more about NCC. NCC in India was formed with the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948 (National Cadet Corps Act of 1948). It was created on 15 July 1948. The National Cadet Corps can be considered the successor of the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC), which was established by the British in 1942. During World War II, the UOTC did not live up to the expectations set by the British. This led to the idea that some better schemes should be made, which can train more youth in a better way even in times of peace.
A committee headed by Pandit HN Kunzru recommended the setting up of a cadet organization in schools and colleges at the national level. The National Cadet Corps Act was accepted by the Governor-General and the National Cadet Corps came into existence on 15 July 1948. During the 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan, NCC cadets were the second line of defense. They organized camps to assist ordnance factories, supplied arms and ammunition to the front, and were also used as patrols to capture enemy paratroopers.
The NCC cadets also worked for hand in hand with the civil defense officers and actively participated in rescue operations and traffic control. The NCC syllabus was revised after the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971. Instead of being just a second line of defense, the NCC curriculum laid more emphasis on developing leadership qualities and officer-like qualities. Military training for NCC cadets was reduced and other areas such as social service and youth management were given more importance.
What is the goal of NCC? What is the Aim of NCC?
